Day 85 - The Most Efficient Yet?

Day 85 - The Most Efficient Yet?

We were moving at just gone 8 this morning after comfy sleep and breakfast (although no buffet this morning sadly). That's despite snoozing the alarm for a precious extra 20 mins sleep! The main focus of the day was to see the sea (a new one to us) and get some miles in (kilometres in Emma's case). We had planned a route on some bigger roads to start to get some distance, and then smaller to see the sea and beach. Smart eh?

That's a very comprehensive list!

The tailwind (yeh I know right - what a place!) helped and we'd soon blasted enough distance to get hungry, so we pulled in for a sweet bun full of unidentified green stuff we thought was savoury, and a Vietnamese baguette. The latter is quickly becoming a favourite of ours - quality baps filled with your choice (vegetables and/or egg in our case) for 20-40p each - win!

It's been a long term goal to be in a place that grows mangos and gorge myself on them so we bought a pile in then next town on. We stopped to get water a little later and eat said fruit, and seeing what we were trying to do, the shopkeeper (who hadn't even sold us the mangos) provided two chairs, a third for a table, a knife, a plate and some napkins - how nice is that?!

I guess we're going around then (a big stage being set up across the entire road!)

Much earlier in the afternoon than expected we finally reached the sea! A big industrial area (with accompanying MASSIVE roads) gave way to a fishing village which gave way to a beautiful coastline road, full of mainly cyclists!

"Do you get the impression they get wind here?"
Behind the scenes on the work we put in for you guys every day!

As usual, the conversation today covered many topics, from a long one about vacuum cleaning to games consoles. I quote Emma on the subject of video games: "...and I could never make the little man move and look around at the same time." To be fair she can cycle a very long way for someone who was born before computers existed 😛.

At some point we passed through a village of happy hellos, and picked up a whole horde of kids on bikes and electric mopeds! They were loving it, laughing and high fiving us. Just as we wondered if they were planning to accompany us the remaining 50kms they reached what must be the limit of their allowed range and waved us off.

We then managed to stop for a few more snacks, lots more pictures and choose and navigate to a hotel, all before it got dark! 💪💪💪

We're enjoying being able to afford some fancier places, but this one takes the biscuit as we turned a corner in the very normal town, wondering if the hotel is nearby, and then see it looming grand on the horizon! (It's the massive fancy building in the picture in case you didn't get that!)

Judging by the price, design and affordability of the hotel we're not in a tourist area, but rather somewhere catering to local businessmen. This eas confirmed when we excitedly went to check out the spa...

On arrival at the spa we're offered a massage. Could be nice actually after the cycling and I've never had one before, but what about the sauna? Some translate later and we're being offered a massage again. Okay, Emma is keen for a massage. "Sorry no women". Eh, but there's scantily clad women walking about over there who've clearly come out of the sp....oh it's not really a massage is it? Suffice to say we beat a hasty retreat!

I'll let you know how it is!

The bubble tea place we wanted to go (we'd been craving it all day - it's been like 30 hours since the last one) turned out to be in the hotel itself - win! That was 90p very well spent. However, sadly the restaurant was closed so we reluctantly tried to find the closest place to eat which served something other than just fish. Asking the hotel for a recommendation it turns out the restaurant is closed but room service is available, so we ordered the only two vegetarian things and called it a night.

I'll leave you with this guy, "I see your bicycle on the back of a moped and I raise you a moped on the back of a moped!"
