Day 45 - Water in the Desert

Day 45 - Water in the Desert
She's not actually that sad, but she was a bit sad about losing her spork at the hotel and Tigre's glasses on the bumpy route 🙃

Water water everywhere... ...but it's falling on my head so I can't drink it. Although we did try and open our mouths as we went along!

The morning was WINDY. Our old nemesis back whipping across the plains and making progress absolutely brutal to achieve, despite the track actually being pretty good.

These two appeared out of nowhere to get a picture, then promptly disappeared again, dog running behind!

It was flat. It was empty. It was windy. Then it started raining. In the desert. To be honest that actually made it better as the wind dropped a bit and then rain wasn't hard or set in. We worried we'd get clogged, but the air and ground are so dry the surface was drying almost immediately between the showers, so we were able to continue.

Our water refill was a chap living in this van, who warned us about the state of the upcoming road with some vigorous miming of bumps, followed by drawing a finger across his throat

It started pouring just as we were thinking about stopping, so we pitched as fast as we could. Sadly it wasn't fast enough as the inner tent was soaked, but we towelled it off enough to be workable and got to eating.

Tomato paste, oats and nuts - you have to be inventive to carry four days of food from a limited market. Better than it looks!

We got some "free" water via careful placement of vesicles under the corners of the tent where it drips off. This proved remarkably effective. Like 2.5 litres of water effective!!! It has the same satisfying feeling as using a solar panel to charge your phone.

It's going to be a wet night with everything soaked to start with, but luckily we're in a place with great drying weather for tomorrow, that's if the footprints we made in the mud in the porch don't overflow and the door stays uncollapsed... Food spend today: 0 euros
