Day 32 - We went for a bike ride!

It was 12 by the time we'd finished our lie in, breakfast, tidying, drying, packing, cleaning..."reset phaff". We wanted to go to Armenia, which is 26km in the opposite direction to the airport. Given it was also a gorgeous day and 12 o'clock and we still hadn't left, we decided to stay in the very comfortable and very cheap hotel another night and make the trip to Armenia luggage free, so we left the carnage and headed out.

This will soon odd, but Georgia reminds me of North Wales. I think it's a combination of the grey stone houses, the exact same tarmac weathered in the exact same way, the same smell of the mud and the same crisp air after the storm. The similarities do end there though.

Soon enough the border rolled into view and we braced for the Georgian border guards again. There was a moment of pause before the border to check there wasn't a re-entry period on the visas (that would have been a major screw up) and then quite a serious border to be crossing knowing we were coming back in an hour! The Armenian side was much more friendly and very welcoming, and then suddenly - new country!

Bracing the cold wind, we visited a market which was the result you'd get if a hoarder ran a shop. Quite an incredible number of random things crammed in, but a popular shop!

Turkish delight in a biscuit!
We felt the church was a safer lunch spot than the tree near that bench 😅

We bought some lunch which we ate huddled against the church rather cold (turns out carrying panniers of all the clothes you need around is really helpful actually) and Emma found her Armenian souvenir before we headed back over the border. The Armenian border guard was rather sad that we were leaving already - we felt a bit bad as that was the happy and friendly one!

A local delicacy - walnuts in plum "leather"
It's very colourful and pretty money to be fair so we can see why people would want lots 😉

Now we're back to our oh-so-warm and oh-so-cozy hotel which we can enjoy this evening without a zillion jobs to do! 🥳

Supplementing their gas hob with ours (we're very excited to have pasta which is unusual on a cycling tour!)
