Day 26 - Oh sweet tailwind!

Day 26 - Oh sweet tailwind!

We spent a full hour this morning patching the existing and new holes in our panniers in preparation for the first wet day (first wet day?!) of our tour tomorrow. Then we got onto the dual carriageway and into a sweet, sweet tailwind! "Man we've earned this" was the predominant feeling, along with "weeeee"! We stayed on that same road ALL day and despite our late start made our minumum distance at 16:30! The tailwind switched to a cross wind about mile 80, but we weren't about to start complaining, and nor could the threatening, dark skies dampen our gratitude for the tailwind, especially when the sun came out again to reward us!

Except from that, nothing much happened! We met a Swiss (from Canton Uri no less!) who was on his way back after 2.5 years of on and off bike touring, a car recovery van pulled over on the motorway to ask if we wanted a lift (like a reverse hitchhike!) and a petrol station attendant gave us two cups for the vat of tea sitting outside every petrol station.

We stopped for some dinner at a diner and looked at the impending doom offered by the weather forecast. We decided to keep going in the dark to get as much distance done while it wasn't raining as possible. That was until it started raining. We took the next exit on the motorway and found a great campsite within only a few minutes which was a stroke of luck! Bit of a shame as the legs were good and we were payched, but there's no point cycling in the rain and dark trying to avoid cycling in the rain!
