Day 1 - Finally Out the House

After 10 days of endless jobs dawn to dusk (and beyond!) trying to get the life, house and bike in good order before leaving, a period when the lists got lists of lists, we finally left today! Felt good to be rolling and the bikes felt even better. Should have changed those cables (and gears and chain and wheels and bearings) YEARS ago. Oh those gear shifts are crisp!

We cycled straight to the train under the Susten pass. Missing a pass?! Yes missing a pass - it's a grim motorway like experience with many a fumy tunnel I promised myself that I'd never do again, and anyway - we got more interesting places to get to given we left 3 days later than planned on an already late leaving day.

So very soon after leaving we were enjoying exceptional Italian pizza and gelato by one of the great lakes. A quick Lidl hit where we got ALL of the exciting goodies rounded off a pleasingly uneventful first day. Currently camped up in a swampy forest tea in hand feeling very happy to be on the road without an enormous number of jobs to do!
